This transformative experience is not just a box-ticking exercise for your school to offer, it’s an immersive cultural experience that your students will never have anywhere else. It’s about making a real difference and impact to a community while coming away as a renewed person and giving your own community some perspective. We hike amongst the tallest mountains in the world to Gatlang, which is still recovering from this tragedy, to help rebuild the local community and in the process foster real relationships that last longer than you will ever realise. This meaningful experience is designed to empower students to be brave, curious and compassionate.
Gatlang Community Project
A Meaningful and Transformative School and Community Experience in the Himalayas
A transformational adventure in the Himalayas that will transform your students.
An exclusive and meaningful experience designed to empower students to be brave, curious and compassionate that no other company in the world has access to.
In 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal killing almost 9,000 people. Adventure Abroad guides will take you on an unforgettable journey through this iconic destination to the epicenter of this tragedy, with an objective to transform the way your students live through an immersive and authentic Nepali community experience.
It’s our mission to provide empowering, engaging and inspiring moments while getting your students to seek, understand and strive for opportunity. In 2015, the Gatlang Community vanished in the wake of an earthquake with its epicentre only a few miles away – all that stood were a few houses. Over the years, we have built an exclusive relationship through trust and understanding that no other company has access to, focusing our energy on rebuilding the local school and providing key elements to ensure its functioning. This is an immersive experience that will make a difference to more than just one human being.
- A transformational and meaningful experience for your staff and students.
- Provide aid to the local Gatlang Community in the Langtang Valley, the epicentre of the earthquake.
- Watching the personal growth of your students through adversity and resilience.
- Show a unique and exclusive perspective of the world.
Kathmandu has long been regarded as one of the far corners of the world – a place to stimulate all of your senses. We will stay a few days in Kathmandu before heading into the Langtang Valley, where we will be among some of the world’s largest and most awe-inspiring mountain ranges. We’ll begin work with the Gatlang Community, which was severely impacted by the earthquake, knocking down its hospital, school and all the houses in its path. This is a transformational experience, which will leave you feeling emotionally attached to this area for the rest of your life. This itinerary is carefully planned to get the very best out of your students while exploring the opportunities of personal growth.
We believe in delivering meaningful experiences, by using travel to enrich ourselves and our respective communities. Travelling just to tick the box and using it as a basis of competition or comparison is not why you should be doing this, however contributing to a community where it’s needed, which is more than just a few token pencils and pens is a valid reason. By contributing, you’ll engage in an immersive and interactive experience resulting in personal growth and transformative experience for your students.
We don’t believe in going to Nepal just to tick the box. We believe in going there to make a difference. Immerse yourself in the Nepali culture and leave the logistics to your educated, English-speaking and knowledgeable team who will be with you every step of the way into the Himalayas. We are here to make a real difference!
The Gatlang Project is an empowering and meaningful experience curated for school and youth groups looking to tap into their potential. Your students will come home with a different perspective on the world, understanding empathy, compassion and adversity.
